Soil Analysis: With focus on viability of Aute’ Agriculture

Statement of the Problem:

• Will Terra Nueva soil support Aute’ plant life?
• Initial survey of Terra Nueva soil shows a deficiency in phosphorous and elevated levels of Selenium.

o Phosphorous is a necessary element in the growth of Aute’ plant life. An altering sugar phosphorous backbone is part of all Aute’ DNA
o Selenium is absorbable by Aute’ plant life based on soil level and acidity. At low dose is a needed supplement, but can prove toxic at high levels
Growth of Aute’ plant life in Terra Nueva soil.

• Use fertilizer to add phosphorous in proper organic form to soil and adjust acidity to reduce selenium absorption.

Materials: Organic Phosphorous, Organic Acids to adjust acidity. Cold plasma sterilization system, soil sample from murder maple, soil sample from second spot Site #1, sterilized soil sample as control sample.

Procedure:

• Add organic phosphorous and acids to each soil sample.
• Test phosphorous levels every 3 hours in each soil sample.
• Test for selenium binding with iron in soil.

Results:

• Murder Maple Soil

o Test 1 phosphorous added test at normal levels to sustain plant growth. Test level of Iron selenium compounds
o Test 2 phosphorous levels reduced by 10%
o Test 3 phosphorous levels reduced by 20%
o Test 4 phosphorous levels reduced by 30%
o Test 5 Iron selenium compounds increased

• Northern Forest Soil sample

o Test 1 phosphorous added test at normal levels to sustain plant growth
o Test 2 phosphorous levels reduced by 25%
o Test 3 phosphorous levels reduced by 50%
o Test 4 phosphorous levels reduced by 75%
o Test 5 Iron selenium compounds increased

• Sterilized Soil sample

o Test 1 phosphorous added test at normal levels to sustain plant growth
o Test 2 phosphorous levels unchanged
o Test 3 phosphorous levels unchanged
o Test 4 phosphorous levels unchanged
o Test 5 Iron selenium compounds increased

Conclusions:

Simple addition of fertilizer will not be sufficient to allow for sustained growth of Aute’ plant life. The continued loss of phosphorous from the soil would make the process not practical unless the loss tops off after a high enough level has been reached. The control sample suggests the phosphorous loss can be attributed to micro-organism in the air or more likely the soil.
